ANA / ANF (Hep-2), IFA IN DILUTION
This test measures antinuclear antibodies using Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) on HEp-2 cells and dilutes the blood sample step-by-step to measure the precise concentration (titer) and staining pattern of autoantibodies.
Why is This Test Ordered?
- Determine Autoantibody Levels: Measures the strength/titer of ANA in the blood to help differentiate clinically significant autoimmune disease from borderline results.
- Diagnose Autoimmune Conditions: Used to evaluate suspected Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Scleroderma, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, or Sjogren’s Syndrome.
- Monitor Disease Activity: Helps physicians assess autoantibody levels over time or confirm initial positive ANA screenings.
Preparation & Fasting
- Fasting: Not required.
- Medications: Inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, as certain medications can cause drug-induced positive ANA results.
Sample Collection
- A standard blood sample drawn from a vein in your arm.
Turnaround Time
- Results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours.
