ALLERGY SCREEN, PAEDIATRIC
The Paediatric Allergy Screen is a specialized blood test designed to detect IgE antibodies to common environmental and dietary allergens that most frequently affect infants, toddlers, and young children.
Why is This Test Ordered?
- Identify Childhood Triggers: Detects sensitivities to common paediatric triggers such as cow’s milk, eggs, peanuts, wheat, dust mites, pet dander, and pollen.
- Investigate Symptoms: Recommended for children with unexplained eczema/skin rashes, chronic nasal congestion, wheezing, persistent coughing, or digestive distress (vomiting/diarrhoea).
- Safe Early Diagnosis: Provides a quick, safe alternative to skin-prick testing for infants and young children.
Preparation & Fasting
- Fasting: Not required.
- Medications: Unlike skin-prick tests, most oral antihistamines do not need to be stopped beforehand, though you should inform the doctor of any current medications.
Sample Collection
- A standard blood sample collected from a vein in the arm or finger-prick (depending on the child's age and lab guidelines).
Turnaround Time
- Results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours
